DALLAS, Pa. (AP) - Teachers in one northeastern Pennsylvania school district have ended their strike, but warn it could resume Feb. 27 without a new contract.

Dallas School District teachers hit the picket lines Nov. 14, 15 months after their last contract expired.

They’ve since been embroiled in a dispute with the school board over how long they may strike. The district claimed the strike had to end by Dec. 13, but the teachers say the board’s decision to extend the school year to June 26 enabled them to strike longer.

By law, students must receive 180 class days of instruction by June 15, unless the school district extends the calendar.

Teachers and students returned to class Monday.

The union and board are now arguing whether mandatory arbitration has been triggered by the strike.
