Utah’s six Republican presidential electors have cast their votes for Donald Trump.
The six electors, who were chosen by Utah GOP delegates earlier this year, cast their votes in a brief meeting Monday at the state Capitol as protesters filled the room, yelling “Vote your conscience,” and “The whole world is watching.”
The six Republicans were all required by law to cast their votes for Trump, who won the state’s popular vote in November.
About 150 protesters gathered in the Capitol, citing their concerns about Trump and instead urging electors to vote for someone else or abstain. They booed when Utah’s Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox read out the results.
Utah law requires any elector who doesn’t vote for the winning candidate to be replaced.
