SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - Prosecutors are asking a judge to bar a former part-time northeastern Pennsylvania police officer from arguing self-defense in the off-duty shooting death of a man outside his apartment.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune (https://bit.ly/2gU6k8H ) reports that Lackawanna County prosecutors also argue that former Carbondale patrolman Francis Schulze shouldn’t be allowed to argue that he was justified as a law enforcement officer in using deadly force.

The 26-year-old defendant is charged with homicide in the February death of 34-year-old Joe Molinaro. Authorities allege that Schulze confronted Molinaro and his girlfriend outside his home, pursued the fleeing victim and shot him twice.

Defense attorney Corey Kolcharno said jurors should decide whether the shooting was self-defense and rejected as baseless an allegation that his client had a personal motivation in the shooting.
