CHICAGO (AP) - President Barack Obama has pardoned one Illinois resident and shortened the sentences of seven others in the state convicted of federal crimes.

Overall, Obama pardoned 78 people and shortened the sentence of 153 others. It’s the most number of individual clemencies in a single day by any president.

Theresa Renee Gardley of Hillside was pardoned for unlawful use of an authorized access device.

Those convicted of drug-related crimes whose sentences were commuted included three Chicago residents: Jason C. Brown, Terrance Range and Angel Santana. The others are Gregory Anthony Collins of Greenville, Travis Davis of Galesburg, Stacia Smith of Dolton and Jerry Strahan of Granite City.

Obama has been granting commutations at rapid-fire pace in his final months in office, but he’s focused primarily on shortening sentences rather than pardons.
