SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Girl Scouts have dedicated a new lodge at the organization’s camp on Lake Springfield.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (https://bit.ly/2gUHiWS ) the new structure at Camp Widjiwagan incorporates parts of the almost 80-year-old building it replaced.

Some beams and interior walls were salvaged from the old building. The original camp patch was recreated and installed in the concrete floor.

Pam Kovacevich is CEO of the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois. She said during a dedication ceremony on Sunday that the new lodge is warmer, has a more modern kitchen and more space for programming.

The lodge replaces one that was built in 1936 and 1937, around the same time the Girl Scouts acquired the property.
