KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) - A school district in central Idaho has hired a lobbyist to represent its interests during the 2017 legislative session.
The Idaho Mountain Express (https://bit.ly/2hsVUkj ) reports that board members for the Blaine County School District narrowly approved hiring lobbyist Phil Homer last week.
Homer will be paid $3,300 per month when the Legislature kicks off the session in January, including housing, travel and pre-approved expenses.
Trustees Elizabeth Corker and Cami Bustos opposed the move, arguing that the district should not spend money on playing politics.
According to the secretary of state’s office, no other school district has reported hiring a lobbyist as of November.
The district’s decision comes at a time when public school funding and, teacher salaries are expected to be the top issues during the 2017 session.
