FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State University says a $2.1 million grant will enable its Office of K-12 Outreach to keep cooperating with officials in Flint on improving the city’s schools.
The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation awarded the funding. It builds on an earlier $2 million grant that supported the Michigan State office’s work with Flint school principals on improving literacy and math programs. It also helped the superintendent’s office with personnel and data collection system upgrades.
Assistant dean Barbara Markle says the outreach office will use the new grant to work with Flint schools in four areas over the coming year.
They include developing student support systems, strengthening curriculum and teaching, cultivating the district’s leadership and organizational structure and forging stronger ties with the community.
