LOS ANGELES (AP) - Alex Smith hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 31 points, Jarrell Tate had 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists and Bethesda beat Cal State Northridge 100-95 on Friday night.
Buddha Boyd had 15 points and seven rebounds, while Travis Divita scored 10 for Bethesda, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association.
A 3-pointer by Jesse Henderson started a 10-2 run that gave Bethesda the lead for good late in the first half. Alex Smith hit another 3 to cap the spurt and make it 48-41 before a layup by Kendall Smith pulled CSUN (3-8) within five at halftime. The Matadors pulled within two points on seven second-half occasions, the last of which on a Tavrion Dawson layup that made it 71-69 with 10 minutes left.
Boyd answered with a jumper before back-to-back 3s by Divita gave the Flames their biggest lead, 79-69, with 8:39 remaining.
Dawson led CSUN with 22 points, a career-high 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. Smith and Darin Johnson added 20 points and six assists apiece.
Bethesda made 13 3-pointers and scored 23 points off 15 CSUN turnovers.
