SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - City Hall workers in Savannah have donated more than 7,000 cans of food to a local charity right before the holidays.

The city said in a news release that employees brought in a total of 7,207 canned goods for the local government’s annual food drive. The event encourages friendly competition between City Hall bureaus, with the collected food going to America’s Second Harvest.

Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach this year presented the trophy for most-generous city bureau to the Leisure Services Bureau. Its employees donated an average of 11 cans apiece.

The MVP was Leisure Services worker Edith Crawford. She personally donated 1,219 cans of food.
