PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - A jury has ruled for Prescott and ex-Mayor Marlin Kuykendall in a lawsuit filed by a former Yavapai Humane Society employee over her 2010 firing.

The Daily Courier (https://goo.gl/Xlll81 ) reports that KayAnne Riley said she wouldn’t appeal the verdict Friday in federal court in Phoenix.

Riley contended that Kuykendall violated her free speech right by contacting Humane Society officials and threatening to end the group’s contract with the city because she participated in an employment protest involving the city.

City Attorney Jon Paladini said the verdict confirmed that Prescott had nothing to do with Riley’s firing.

The lawsuit sought monetary damages suffered after Riley lost her $40,000-per-year marketing director job and then spent months in a job search.

Riley said she and her lawyers thought she had a strong case.
