ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico faces a budget crisis but Roswell-area leaders still have their sights set on getting state funding for local projects they consider important.

The Roswell Daily Record (https://goo.gl/JoIEEq ) reports that Chaves County elected officials and organization leaders requested more than $11 million in capital outlay funds while meeting Friday with area lawmakers.

The big ticket request was $3.5 million for repairs to a badly leaking roof of a hangar owned by the city of Roswell and leased by an aircraft painting company.

Legislators said all $3.5 million might not be available but they said they agree that the project is important for economic development.

The state is struggling to close a budget shortfall linked to downturn in the oil and natural gas sector and the nation’s second-highest unemployment rate.
