BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting he killed a man, then just over a week later killed his girlfriend who knew about the first slaying.

Beaufort County prosecutors said in a news release Charles Brown pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of murder.

Authorities say Brown killed 28-year-old Titus Singleton in December 2015, burning his decapitated body in a car in Yemassee.

Prosecutors say 10 days later Brown shot his 25-year-old girlfriend Katherine Collier in the shoulder. Authorities say when Collier begged to be taken to the hospital, Brown shot her in the head, fearing she would tell authorities about Singleton’s death.

Authorities say Brown’s brother Olin was sentenced to 13 years and mother Nancy Kennedy to three years for helping hide the bodies.
