DENVER (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for shooting a Denver taxi cab driver to death during a botched robbery.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/QwP5lf ) Dasean Perry was sentenced Thursday for the Sept. 5, 2015, death of 49-year-old Darren Bloomquist. Perry struck a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery.

Bloomquist was shot in the head while picking up a fare near Green Valley Ranch, a gated community northeast of Denver. He was a taxi driver out of necessity, but the psychologist by training worked for four years to make ends meet ferrying Denver passengers.

According to his obituary, Bloomquist joined the Air Force after college and enjoyed animals, fantasy role-playing games, drawing pictures, mazes and writing.
