MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A small business owner and the former police chief of Vermont’s largest city are the two newest members of the cabinet of Gov.-elect Phil Scott.

The incoming Vermont governor announced Friday that Lindsay Kurrle, a certified public accountant and small business owner, will become commissioner of the state Department of Labor.

Former Burlington Police Chief Michael Schirling, currently the executive director of the economic development organization called BTV Ignite, is going to become secretary of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development.

Scott, who takes office Jan. 5, says his administration will “have a laser focus on economic growth.” He says the commerce agency and Department of Labor will be at the center of that effort.
