Germans at a Christmas market in Ludwigshafen were targeted for terror by a 12-year-old whose bomb failed to detonate.
The Federal Public Prosecutor Office in Karlsruhe confirmed Friday that a German-Iraqi child attempted to kill his fellow citizens on two occasions. One bomb failed to detonate on Nov. 26 and another was defused on Dec. 5 after a call from an informant.
Police said the boy, who was born in Ludwigshafen in 2004, was “strongly radicalized” by the Islamic State group, Reuters reported Friday.
Public Prosecutor Hubert Stroeber said an investigation is underway to find possible suspects linked to the plots.
The boy’s age makes him too young in Germany to face formal criminal proceedings, Reuters reported.
