DALLAS, Ore. (AP) - A suspect was killed and an officer shot and wounded after a DUI traffic stop at a Wal-Mart in Dallas on Friday “escalated,” police said.

Oregon State Police Lt. Bob Charpentier said in a brief statement to news outlets Friday night that an adult male suspect was shot after the situation escalated at about 5:45 p.m. Three Dallas Police officers were investigating the man for a DUI-related incident, according to police.

One of the officers involved was shot in the leg and was expected to survive, Charpentier said. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not say who fired the gunshots.

Police say multiple law enforcement agencies were investigating with Oregon State Police taking the lead. Multiple news outlets reported that the Wal-Mart store was closed while police investigated.

The names of the officers and suspect were not immediately released.

Dallas is about 15 miles west of Salem.
