DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Burrell Ellis is returning to his job in DeKalb County government.
When he arrives Wednesday, WXIA-TV reports (https://on.11alive.com/2gyCczz ) he will have a check for $104,380 waiting - back pay minus deductions for the time he was docked following his conviction.
The embattled CEO went to prison for seven months on corruption charges before the Georgia Supreme Court overturned his conviction.
Ellis’ spokesman, Jeff Dickerson, says Ellis aims to move back into his office and fully engage in the running of government starting Wednesday. But the return will be brief. He only has three weeks left in his term.
After those weeks, Ellis will vacate again to make way for Michael Thurmond, who was elected overwhelmingly in November.
District Attorney-elect Sherry Boston says Ellis’ successor will be sworn in, in January.
