CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Some members of the Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee are questioning Gov. Matt Mead’s proposal to keep two state-funded tribal liaisons and his plan for paying for construction work at the state prison.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2hGAQ6W ) that Mead went before the committee on Monday to present his proposal budget.
Panel members questioned Mead’s proposal to spend $160,000 on liaisons for each of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes and borrowing money to fix the Wyoming State Penitentiary.
Members of the panel are holding hearings this week with agencies to review their budget requests ahead of the 2017 legislative session, which begins Jan. 10. Depressed oil, gas and coal have resulted in big budget cuts that Mead says has resulted in the loss of hundreds of state government positions.
