Burger King has a new take on its iconic Whopper: The Whopperito.

The fast food chain announced Monday that its famous burger will get a Tex-Mex twist and go national on Aug. 15. The menu item, which was tested in select locations in June, likely targets competitor Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc.

The Whopperito will pair Burger King’s ground beef, lettuce, onion, pickles and tomatoes with a flour tortilla.

“It’s certainly one of the first times that we’ve tapped into the Tex-Mex category,” Alex Macedo, North American president at Burger King, said Monday, Bloomberg reported. “It’s one of the fastest-growing categories — consumers like the freshness of it, they like the mix of flavors. It’s not too spicy.”

Whopperitos will sell for $2.99. The company plans to sell them for three to four months.
