“Stranger Things,” a sci-fi smash hit of the summer, has been renewed for a second season on the Netflix streaming service, Variety reported Wednesday.

The 9-episode second season will be released sometime in 2017, and, in a move that’s sure to stoke anticipation and speculation among fans, Gizmodo reported on Wednesday that Netflix has already released the episode titles for the season.

Set in the 1983 in rural Indiana, the program’s first season centers on strange events connected to secret government research in a U.S. government laboratory outside the fictional town of Hawkins, including the disappearance of a young boy and the arrival of a mysterious young girl named Eleven.

Brothers Matt and Ross Duffer “will return as writers for the second season and will executive produce with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen once again,” Variety reported.

The cult popularity of “Stranger Things” is perhaps all the more astounding given the relative obscurity of both the show’s creators and much of the program’s cast. According to the Internet Movie Database, the Duffer brothers have relatively few writing credits to their names, although both scripted episodes of the Fox network thriller “Wayward Pines.”

And as for the “Stranger Things” cast, only Winona Ryder — who plays the distraught single mother of a missing boy — and Matthew Modine — who plays a sinister government scientist — are household names.
