Appearing on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday, Daniel Lawrence Whitney, better known by his stage name Larry the Cable Guy, gave a rather, well, qualified endorsement of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, saying the Democratic alternative, Hillary Clinton, would bring about the “end of the country.”
While Mr. Whitney addressed the election forthrightly, not in character as his Cable Guy persona, he did crack a few jokes along the way.
“I say I’m a Trump man, and when I say Trump man, I mean Gary Johnson,” he said, laughing at his own joke, before adding, “I know who I’m not voting for. Well, I’ll give you the initials: Hillary Clinton,” the Nebraska-born comedian said.
“I want a change. I like Trump,” Mr. Whitney said, but complained of the businessman that “some of things he says are outrageous, so you just don’t know.”
“It’s kind of like the choice is, let’s see, ’Do I want to poop my pants, or do I want somebody else to poop my pants?’ So, I dunno, I think I think I’ll poop my own pants.”
“Hillary will be the end of the country. That’s all I got to say,” concluded Mr. Whitney.
In a taped interview to be aired Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on SiriusXM 99’s “The Raw Report,” Mr. Whitney said he doesn’t literally think Mrs. Clinton would end up destroying the United States if she’s elected president.
“Now I’m a comedian so I said that — now do I like Hillary Clinton? No. am I going to vote for Hillary Clinton? No,” Mr. Whitney said, according to a transcript provided by SiriusXM. “Do I honestly think she’s going to destroy our country? [laughs] We’ll still be a country. We’ll still be America. But I think she’s going to hurt it a little bit. But we’ll still be around,” he said.
In addition to talking about the election and touching on the Colin Kaepernick controversy — “Why would you protest the very thing [the American flag] that gives you that freedom?!” — Mr. Whitney worked in a brief plug for his new Netflix special titled “We’ve Been Thinking,” a collaboration with comedian Jeff Foxworthy.
“That’s out now, and, I’m getting tons of great feedback on it. … If you haven’t seen it, you ought to check it out.”
