Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump suggested that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick might want to find a country that “works better for him,” after Mr. Kaepernick has refused to stand for the U.S. National Anthem.
“I have followed it, and I think it’s personally not a good thing. I think it’s a terrible thing,” Mr. Trump said Monday on KIRO radio ahead of a trip to Washington State Tuesday.
“Maybe he should find a country that works better for him,” Mr. Trump said. “Let him try. It won’t happen.”
Mr. Kaepernick has said he won’t stand for the flag in protest of the United States’ oppression of minorities, and he criticized both Mr. Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton earlier this week.
