A professional wedding planner who specializes in events for celebrity clients said recently that singer Ciara and NFL quarterback Russell Wilson decided to ditch North Carolina for their wedding destination this summer because of the state’s so-called bathroom bill.

“I did the whole thing — three times,” the planner, Mindy Weiss, told The Knot, a wedding-planning website. “They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws.”

The couple, who wed on July 6, eventually settled on tying the knot at a medieval castle near Liverpool, England.

Paris reportedly was the first alternative after the Tar Heel State was nixed, but it was unworkable due to a conflict with the Couture Fashion Week going on at the time, Ms. Weiss said.

According to AshVegas.com, an Asheville, North Carolina-based news site, “unconfirmed reports” say the town’s posh Biltmore Estate — which, on average, charges upwards of $40,000 a ceremony — was the venue the Wilsons ended up canceling on.

While other celebrities have been outspoken on social media regarding the so-called bathroom bill, a search of Twitter revealed no tweets expressing opposition to the legislation nor urging a boycott of North Carolina from either Ciara nor Mr. Wilson’s official accounts.
