In an appearance on late-night television, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton tried to laugh off recent questions over her health, saying such attacks are part of Republicans’ “wacky” strategy against her.

“This has become one of their themes,” Mrs. Clinton said, asking host Jimmy Kimmel to take her pulse and make sure she’s alive during an appearance on his program, which was taped Monday.

“Back in October, the National Enquirer said I would be dead in six months,” she said. “So with every breath I take, I feel like it’s … a new lease on life.”

“I don’t know why they are saying this,” Mrs. Clinton said. “I think on the one hand, it’s part of the wacky strategy — just say all these crazy things and maybe you can get some people to believe you.”

“On the other hand, it just absolutely makes no sense,” she said. “I don’t go around questioning Donald Trump’s health. I mean, as far as I can tell he’s as healthy as a horse.”

Mr. Trump, 70, has said recently that Mrs. Clinton, 68, lacks “the mental and physical stamina” to “take on ISIS and all of the many adversaries we face — not only in terrorism but in trade [and] every other challenge we must confront to turn our great country around.”

Last week, the Clinton campaign released a statement from her personal physician, Dr. Lisa Bardack, attesting to Mrs. Clinton’s “excellent health” and saying there have been false medical documents leaked with Dr. Bardack’s name on them.

Mrs. Clinton suffered a concussion in 2012, but Dr. Bardack released a statement last year saying Mrs. Clinton is a healthy female, with hypothyroidism and seasonal allergies, who is fit to serve as president of the United States.

Asked recently whether he wanted to see Mrs. Clinton’s medical records, Mr. Trump actually demurred.

“No, I don’t want to get into that,” Mr. Trump said on Fox News. “I think that would be inappropriate.”

But former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, a prominent Trump surrogate, has encouraged people to check things out for themselves.

“Go online and put down Hillary Clinton illness, take a look at the videos for yourself,” Mr. Giuliani said this week on “Fox News Sunday.”
