Donald Trump’s campaign manager said Tuesday that Mr. Trump is delaying an immigration policy speech he was to deliver Thursday in Colorado, saying it’s a complex issue and he’s been receiving advice from different people on it.
“One event was canceled in Colorado,” Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said on “Fox and Friends.”
“We inherited this schedule, and although I think it’s a great idea to have that kind of speech and certainly put together a full plan, immigration is such a complex issue and Mr. Trump has been taking the counsel [of] many different people on this,” said Ms. Conway, who was promoted to campaign manager last week.
“He obviously has some very strong feelings and policy prescriptions with respect to immigration, but he’s speaking to people to understand how to execute on those ideas,” she said.
Ms. Conway said Mr. Trump is not changing his approach and said reports on a meeting over the weekend that said Mr. Trump might have expressed an openness to softening his stance have been “distorted.”
“He has said exactly the same thing all long: Let’s enforce the law,” Ms. Conway said.
