Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is warning about the possibility that the November election will be “rigged” and “taken away” from Republicans.
“It was rigged, I thought, a little bit for me and we won in landslides,” Mr. Trump said on Fox News’ “Hannity” program Monday evening. “I think it was rigged against Bernie Sanders with his superdelegates nonsense. The guy never had a chance.”
“And I’m telling you, November 8 we better be careful because that election’s going to be rigged, and I hope the Republicans are watching closely or it’s going to be taken away from us,” he said.
Mr. Trump had said the system was rigged during the GOP primary contest, sometimes as Sen. Ted Cruz was outmaneuvering him at party conventions to rack up delegates.
“I’ve been hearing about it for a long time,” Mr. Trump said Monday. “I know last time you had precincts where there were practically nobody voting for the Republican, and I think that’s wrong. I think that was unfair, frankly, to Mitt Romney.”
“You had areas where a lot of people were curious, how is that possible? And I’ve been hearing about it for a long time,” he said.
Mr. Trump had also raised the possibility at an event in Ohio Monday.
He said Sen. Bernard Sanders, who endorsed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton last month, “made a mistake” and “shouldn’t have made a deal.”
“He lost. He lost,” Mr. Trump said. “First of all, it was rigged. And I’m afraid the election’s going to be rigged - I have to be honest.”
At a rally later on in Pennsylvania, Mr. Trump appeared to liken Mrs. Clinton to “the devil” in Mr. Sanders’ deal.
“Believe me, he has buyer’s remorse,” Mr. Trump said. “He made a deal with the devil. She’s the devil.”
