Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is using promotional interviews for the band’s upcoming album to liken Donald Trump to World War II’s Holocaust engineer: Adolf Hitler.
Roughly 6 million Jews were exterminated during the Nazi regime’s reign of terror. Over 60 million people around the world died as a result of the conflict, including over 400,000 Americans. Mr. Armstrong told a British magazine this week, however, that the Republican presidential nominee is no different than “f——— Hitler.”
“The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are. I actually feel bad for them, because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up. They’re pissed off and he’s preyed on their anger,” the musician told British magazine Kerrang! for its latest issue, Uproxx reported Wednesday. “’You have no options and I’m the only one, and I’m going to take care of it myself.’ I mean, that’s f——— Hitler, man! […] “I wish I were over-exaggerating. And sometimes maybe I do over-exaggerate with [George W.] Bush. But with Trump, I just can’t wait ’til he’s gone.”
Mr. Armstrong was a persistent critic of former President George W. Bush, particularly during the release of 2004’s “American Idiot,” which won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. The artist’s politics have been muted throughout President Barack Obama’s tenure.
Green Day’s new upcoming album, “Revolution Radio,” will be released Oct. 7.
