Attending a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton while vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard, President Obama told Democratic donors Monday night that he’s fed up with talking about Republican nominee Donald Trump.

“Frankly I’m tired of talking about her opponent,” Mr. Obama said. “I don’t have to make the case against her opponent because every time he talks, he makes the case against his own candidacy.”

The president spoke at the $10,000-per-person event at the home of Hank and Carol Goldberg, whose hilltop home in Chilmark, Massachusetts, features views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Mr. Obama portrayed the Democratic nominee as a workhorse, not a show horse.

“She’s not always the flashiest; she’s not always the person who’s going to give you the big stem-winder,” Mr. Obama said. “But she is the person who’s going to do the work. She hasn’t just talked the talk – she’s walked the walk for decades.”

He urged the crowd of about 60 people to feel a sense of urgency about the presidential election.

“If we are not running scared until the day after the election, we are going to be making a grave mistake,” the president said. “We are still going to have to fight what has been an unrelenting negative campaign against [Mrs. Clinton] that has made a dent in the opinion of people even who are inclined to vote for her.”
