In a Democratic fundraising email, Vice President Joseph R. Biden is telling supporters that Republican nominee Donald Trump would endanger America if elected president.

“There’s no reason to mince words here: no major party nominee in the history of this nation has ever known less or been less prepared to deal with our national security than Donald Trump,” Mr. Biden said. “If we lose this election, our country will become less safe after Barack [Obama] and I leave office in January. That’s the honest truth, and it’s frightening.”

Mr. Trump asserted this week that President Obama has been “so weak and so bad” that he allowed the Islamic State to grow. He even said Mr. Obama and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton should be considered the “co-founders” of the terrorist group, later saying that he was being sarcastic to make a point.

Mr. Biden said it’s important for Democrats to hit their fundraising targets “to make sure the nightmare of a Trump presidency doesn’t become a reality.”

“I don’t want to see all of the hard work and progress we’ve made over the last eight years undone,” Mr. Biden said. “But more than that, I don’t want a man elected president who rejects so much of what makes our country great — a belief that ordinary Americans can do extraordinary things, and a belief that anyone can make it in America, no matter who they are, where they come from, or who they love.”
