Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump in the four key battleground states of Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Colorado and has built on her leads from last month in all of the states but Florida, according to polling released Friday.
Mrs. Clinton led Mr. Trump by 5 points in Florida, 44 percent to 39 percent, by 9 points in North Carolina, 48 percent to 39 percent, by 13 points in Virginia, 46 percent to 33 percent, and by 14 points in Colorado, 46 percent to 32 percent, according to the NBC/Wall Street Journal Marist polls.
“These are supposed to be battleground states, but right now, they don’t look that way,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.
Mr. Trump did make up a bit of ground in Florida compared to Mrs. Clinton’s 44 percent to 37 percent lead in an NBC/WSJ/Marist poll from before the Democratic and Republican conventions last month, but lost ground in the other three states.
In July, Mrs. Clinton had held a 44 percent to 38 percent lead in North Carolina, a 44 percent to 35 percent lead in Virginia, and a 43 percent to 35 percent lead in Colorado.
President Obama carried Florida, Virginia and Colorado in both 2008 and 2012. He carried North Carolina in 2008 but lost it in 2012 to GOP nominee Mitt Romney.
Mrs. Clinton’s leads in the new polls were comparable in four-way horse races against Mr. Trump, Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party nominee Jill Stein.
The polls were conducted from Aug. 4-10.
