Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump used a Wednesday rally to accuse President Obama and “crooked Hillary Clinton” of co-founding the Islamic State.
At the Fort Lauderdale rally, Mr. Trump repeated his frequent claim that the foreign policy of Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton, his secretary of state and now the Democratic presidential nominee, had created the Islamic State. And then he upped the ante, according to accounts by both Politico and The Associated Press.
“He is the founder of ISIS. He is the founder of ISIS, OK? He’s the founder. He founded ISIS. And I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hillary Clinton,” Mr. Trump said.
He also claimed in the same impromptu speech passage that “ISIS is honoring President Obama,” though he didn’t elaborate on how.
According to the AP’s account of the rally, Mr. Trump was “also referring to the president by his full legal name: Barack Hussein Obama.”
He also has used his Twitter account to claim that Mr. Obama is an ally of Islamist terror. Politico reported that in June, he had tweeted an article from Breitbart that claimed that “the Obama administration was actively supporting Al Qaeda in Iraq, the terrorist group that became the Islamic State.”
