Hillary Clinton got a polling bump after last week’s Democratic National Convention and now leads her GOP rival Donald Trump by 7 points, according to a national CBS News poll released Monday.
Mrs. Clinton led Mr. Trump by a 46 percent to 39 percent margin, after the race had been tied at 42 percent apiece in a poll taken in the days after the Republican National Convention. The new poll was taken from July 29-31.
Mrs. Clinton got a 4-point bounce after the Democrats’ convention, compared to a 2-point bump for Mr. Trump after the Republican convention.
A separate Morning Consult poll taken July 29-30 also showed Mrs. Clinton get a post-convention bounce. She led Mr. Trump by 3 points, 43 percent to 40 percent, after trailing him by 4 points, 44 percent to 40 percent, in a poll taken right after the Republican National Convention.
Analysts say candidates of both major parties typically get poll bounces after their respective conventions, and that a better picture of the race is likely to take shape after those effects settle.
