Fox News has a description for Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, and that is “disrupter.” The news channel will air a one-hour special on both Saturday and Sunday nights titled “Donald Trump — The Disrupter,” chronicling his life on the campaign trail with what producers deem a “fresh take” on the candidate.
“Fox News gives viewers access inside this improbable presidential campaign — warts and all — speaking to the developer’s family, friends and supporters, and going on the road with the candidate himself. Trump has disrupted the pundits, the GOP, the presidential race and business-as-usual. This assault on the political world has naturally created pushback. The hour also investigates the resistance Trump has gotten from both right and left — and the damage he has done to himself,” the network explained in advance.
Anchored by Bret Baier, the program hits the airwaves following a particularly trying two weeks for Mr. Trump, who faced a defeat in the Wisconsin primaries, challenges to his campaign, a hostile press and ambitious rivals from both sides of the aisle. At week’s end, the candidate cleared his normally jam-packed schedule, bowed out of two events and hired Paul Mantafort, a veteran GOP strategist.
The brief pause seemed to have worked. Mr. Trump is back on the campaign trail as of Sunday with plans to visit New York state, which will hold its primary on April 19.
One promising poll predicts he will have a sweeping and definitive win in the Empire State. A Monmouth University survey of likely GOP primary voters in New York revealed that 52 percent support Mr. Trump and 70 percent planned to vote for him if he won the presidential nomination.
“If this result holds in every single congressional district, Trump will walk away with nearly all of New York State’s delegates,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth poll.
For now, the campaign appears to be back on track; Mr. Trump heads to Rochester on Sunday, followed by Albany on Monday. But he appears reflective.
“Isn’t it a shame that the person who will have by far the most delegates and many millions more votes than anyone else, me, still must fight,” Mr. Trump tweeted on Friday night.
“Fox News Reporting: Donald Trump — The Disrupter” airs at 8 p.m. EDT on Saturday, with an encore presentation on Sunday at 8 p.m.
