Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia on Friday deflected talk that he’s on the short list to be Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton’s running mate and predicted that he’ll be sitting with the other senators if Mrs. Clinton gets sworn-in as president in January.
“I really love my job. I really do,” Mr. Kaine said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I have a great feeling that I’m going to be on that podium with Hillary Clinton when she’s taking the oath of office, but I’m going to be sitting with the other senators.”
“She’s going to need a great Senate to work with,” he said. “Being on Armed Services and Foreign Relations from Virginia is a great place, and I’m not looking for another post.”
“I’m going to be sworn in again in the Senate in January,” said Mr. Kaine, who served as governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010.
Mr. Kaine was the first governor outside of Illinois to endorse President Obama over Mrs. Clinton in 2008 and was mentioned as a possible ticketmate for Mr. Obama that year.
He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012 and was one of Mrs. Clinton’s earliest endorsers in the 2016 race, saying in May 2014 that he’d support her candidacy.
