The White House refuted Donald Trump’s claim Wednesday that Cuban President Raul Castro snubbed President Obama by not meeting him at the airport upon the president’s historic trip to Cuba last month.
“It is most common for the president to be received by a lower-level official” when arriving in another country, said White House press secretary Josh Earnest. He noted that on Mr. Obama’s trip abroad last week, the heads of state of Saudi Arabia, Great Britain and Germany didn’t meet the president upon his arrival in those countries, either.
Mr. Trump said in a foreign-policy address in Washington Wednesday that Mr. Castro’s failure to greet Mr. Obama was a deliberate insult.
