Sen. Ted Cruz said Wednesday his campaign will be making a “major announcement” at 4 p.m. in Indiana.
“We’ll be making a major announcement at 4 p.m., so I encourage folks — come join us at 4 p.m.,” he told reporters.
The comments come amid news that the Cruz campaign is vetting former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina as a possible vice presidential pick.
“I have said from the beginning the most important attribute for any running mate is that he or she should be prepared to step in and fulfill the role as president — be commander in chief, keep this country safe, and champion jobs, freedom, and security,” Mr. Cruz said.
The 2016 Republican presidential candidates have also been seeking the endorsement of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence ahead of Tuesday’s primary in the state.
Mr. Cruz said the people of Indiana are hurting, though he credited “two incredible governors” — Mr. Pence and former Gov. Mitch Daniels — for reducing taxes and regulations in the state.
After GOP front-runner Donald Trump’s dominant performance in winning five states Tuesday, Mr. Cruz is now looking to rebound in Indiana, where recent polls have shown him trailing Mr. Trump.
Mr. Trump, meanwhile, is to be joined by former Indiana University basketball coach Bob Knight at a rally later Wednesday in Indianapolis.
