Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Wednesday that his supporters would never cast a vote for Sen. Ted Cruz, his top 2016 GOP rival.
“I agree that my supporters will never cast a vote for him, but I do believe his supporters will cast a vote for me,” Mr. Trump said on “Fox and Friends.”
Mr. Trump had been asked a viewer question about how he can convince “Cruz Republicans” to cross over and support him.
“And we’re already seeing it. Let’s say I averaged over 60 percent in five states, very diverse states — a lot of those people were Cruz supporters previously,” Mr. Trump said of his wins in Tuesday’s primary contests.
“Even when you have three [candidates], it’s hard to get 50” percent, he said. “It’s very hard to get 50. So now I’m getting 60 and 62 and I have three, so it’s been just very exciting. We’re getting a lot of his people … turning over to us.”
