GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Tuesday dismissed the alliance between Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich as “pathetic,” saying it makes both candidates look weak.
“I think it’s collusion. I think it’s pathetic,” Mr. Trump said of the plan on “Fox and Friends.” “It makes them both look weak. They were both doing very badly. They’re losing by millions of votes to me.”
“I’m winning by hundreds of delegates. You [take] a look at Kasich — we call him ’1 for 42.’ He’s won one state out of 42 contests, OK?” he said. “He’s just a guy hanging in.”
“Honestly, Lyin’ Ted — Lyin’ Ted is a disaster,” Mr. Trump said. “Everything he says is so dishonest. … He’ll talk about me, and it’s so dishonest, and it’s hard to believe. The whole thing is hard to believe, actually. But it makes them look weak.”
Earlier this week, the Cruz and Kasich campaigns announced a strategic deployment of resources in upcoming states in a bid to slow Mr. Trump’s path to the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the GOP nomination before the Republican convention in July.
The Cruz campaign is supposed to clear the path for Mr. Kasich to compete in Oregon and New Mexico, while the Kasich campaign is supposed to shift resources away from Indiana, which votes next week and where recent polls have shown Mr. Trump with a narrow advantage over Mr. Cruz.
Mr. Trump also said the deal proves his contention that it’s a “rigged system.”
“These are two insiders — they get together, they want to rig the system against a guy that’s going to make America great again,” he said.
