Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Tuesday he’d “love” to see a female president, but that he doesn’t want it to be Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, who he called “crooked” and “guilty as hell” over her private email server.

“I call her ’Crooked Hillary’ because she’s crooked, and the only thing she’s got is the woman card. That’s all she’s got,” Mr. Trump said on “Fox and Friends.”

“It’s a weak card in her hand — in another person’s hands it could be [a] very powerful card,” he said. “I’d love to see a woman president, but she’s the wrong person. She’s a disaster.”

“Remember the famous call at 3 o’clock in the morning — she was sleeping, OK? She was sleeping,” Mr. Trump said, referring to an ad Mrs. Clinton’s campaign used during the 2008 election as a critique on President Obama’s lack of experience.

“You know, it was her ad. Who would you like at 3 o’clock in the morning? Well, the phone rang, and she was sleeping,” he said.

“She’s guilty as hell on the emails, you got Whitewater — her whole life has been crooked,” Mr. Trump said. “You look at the foundation — the whole life. And the only card she’s got is to play the woman card, and it may be good enough.”

Mr. Trump also pointed out, though, that a national poll released Monday by George Washington University showed him in close to a dead heat with Mrs. Clinton. She had a 3-point, 46 percent to 43 percent, lead over him in the GW Battleground Poll, though other surveys have shown her well in front.

“And I haven’t focused on her yet,” Mr. Trump said. “Look, I started with 17 people and one by one, we knocked ’em off … very capable people — governors, senators, and one by one, we knocked ’em off.”

“I haven’t focused on her, but when I focus on her, I think you’re going to see some very good results,” he said.
