It’s official. Fox News primetime host Megyn Kelly will conduct her first sit-down interview with Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump since the pair sparred during the first GOP presidential debate in August.
The interview will take place in New York, to air on an upcoming Fox special titled “Megyn Kelly Presents.” The big day is May 17 at 8 p.m. Fox News plans to air extended portions of their encounter the following day.
The announcement appears to end a very public disagreement between the two.
“For the first time ever, Kelly will explore how events unfolded with Trump after the August debate, as one of the most prominent voices covering the 2016 presidential campaign of the frontrunner. She will also examine Trump’s successful campaign for the White House to date and his role in one of the most historic presidential runs in modern times,” the network said in advance production notes.
The feud between the candidate and the news anchor essentially began eight months ago during the GOP debate.
As one of three moderators, Ms. Kelly asked Mr. Trump, “You’ve called women you don’t like ’fat pigs,’ ’dogs,’ ’slobs’ and ’disgusting animals.’ Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?”
Mr. Trump responded with choice comments of his own; public reaction ranged from outrage to amusement.
The two appeared to mend fences in mid-April during a private meeting in the billionaire’s New York offices meant to “clear the air.” The meeting did not remain private for long and became a news story on its own.
“Mr. Trump and I sat down together for a meeting earlier this month at my request,” she noted in a statement Monday. “He was gracious with his time and I asked him to consider an interview. I am happy to announce he has agreed, and I look forward to a fascinating exchange — our first sit-down interview together in nearly a year.”
In the meantime, the newly minted “Megyn Kelly Presents” will showcase other notable guests in the future. The program also boasts none other than Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes as senior executive producer, with broadcast veteran Bill Geddie serves as the executive producer.
