Lindsay Lohan spawned rumors of a possible religious conversion last summer when she was spotted with a copy of the Koran, but only now has the Catholic-raised “Mean Girls” star weighed in with regards to her interest in Islam.

Ms. Lohan, 29, told Britain’s The Sun this week that she is indeed studying Islam, but she stopped short of confirming any conversion is in the works.

“I’m a very spiritual person, and I’m really open to learning,” she told the tabloid.

“America has portrayed holding a Koran in such a different way to what it actually is,” the actress said. “We all believe in something, and at the end of the day, it all ties to a god or a spiritual adviser.”

She added that it’s “good to be open-minded” and noted that her sister, 22-year-old Ali Lohan, converted to Buddhism after being raised Catholic.

Speculation surrounding the actress’ apparent interest in Islam erupted last summer when she was photographed carrying a copy of the Koran to a New York kids center where she was performing community service, The Sun reported.

Nearly a year later, however, Ms. Lohan said she’s still reading the Muslim holy book while she continues to study the religion.

“I’m not done reading it. Do you know how long that would take? It takes so long,” she told the tabloid.

As of earlier this month, however, it would seem as if the actress has made it through the first half; Ms. Lohan used an excerpt from Chapter 85 of the Koran to caption a photograph she shared on Instagram two weeks ago.

A representative for the actress confirmed with the New York Post of Ms. Lohan’s interest in Islam and said, “Lindsay has always been very spiritual and is open to exploring all religions and beliefs.”

“She is simply educating herself on other people’s beliefs,” the representative said.
