Michigan state investigators will announce criminal charges Wednesday over the Flint water crisis, the Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday evening, citing “three sources familiar with the investigation.”
The Free Press said the announcement by Attorney General Bill Schuette will target two to four individuals connected with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the City of Flint.
They will face misdemeanor and felony charges related to the lead contamination of Flint’s water system. More charges are expected in the future, the Free Press reported.
One of the persons to be charged, the Free Press reported, “signed a document saying the homes Flint used to test tap water … had lead service lines, a statement investigators allege was false,” effectively letting the city claim lead wasn’t leaching into the water based on pipes that had no lead.
