Businessman Donald Trump on Tuesday acknowledged the potential for hurt feelings when new hires are announced, in the wake of his national field director’s resignation Monday and other recent staff shake-ups.
“I will say this: When you bring in new people, and we’re bringing in very high-level people,” Mr. Trump said on “Fox and Friends.” “As you know, the one ran Walker’s campaign, and you know, I did very well against Walker, but he ran Walker’s campaign — he was and is a very top guy.”
Mr. Trump was referring to Rick Wiley, who managed Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential campaign this year and was brought on to serve as the Trump campaign’s national political director. The Wiley move followed the hiring of Paul Manafort, a longtime Republican Party hand, to serve as Mr. Trump’s convention manager.
Stuart Jolly, the campaign’s national field director, resigned Monday. The news was first reported by Politico.
“So when you bring other people in, I could see some people, their feelings get a little bit hurt,” Mr. Trump said. “I don’t know most of these people, the field people, but frankly … we’re in a position where we’d like to see if we could close it out.”
