GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Monday that other candidates in the race “couldn’t care less” about New York, getting in another plug for “New York values” ahead of Tuesday’s primary in the state.
“We love this city. You look at the other folks that are running, they couldn’t care less about New York,” Mr. Trump said in brief remarks to reporters. “We do care about New York [and] we care about New York a lot. We care about New York values.”
Mr. Trump spoke from Trump Tower in New York City, where members of a diversity coalition that’s supporting him were holding a meeting. He has repeatedly hammered Sen. Ted Cruz over Mr. Cruz’s “New York values” line, which the Texas senator used to attack the billionaire businessman ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
Recent polls have shown Mr. Trump leading by about 30 points or more in the state ahead of the election on Tuesday.
“This has been an amazing campaign. I don’t want to believe the polls. If the polls are what they are now, we’re beyond anything that anybody’s seen, really,” Mr. Trump said.
