Sen. Ted Cruz said Monday that while GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump is a “fun entertainer,” he doesn’t have any solutions on issues like the national debt, jobs or foreign policy.
“Donald’s calculator is missing a few keys,” Mr. Cruz said. “He’s always interesting to watch. He’s a fun entertainer, but Donald has no real solutions.”
At a town hall on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Mr. Cruz had been asked about Mr. Trump’s recent statement that he could wipe out the approximately $19 trillion national debt over the course of eight years.
“You know, it’s been a couple of months since we’ve had a debate, because Donald is terrified of debating,” Mr. Cruz said. “The Democrats are debating. Now, why is it that the Democrats think the people of New York deserve a debate, and yet Donald Trump is so scared of a debate that he won’t give the people of New York a debate?”
“The reason is he doesn’t have an answer, how do you bring jobs back to America? Donald has no idea. He has no proposals, no substance,” Mr. Cruz said.
“On foreign policy, how do you defeat ISIS? Donald has no idea whatsoever. And so when it comes to the debt, he doesn’t understand the problem,” Mr. Cruz said.
Mr. Trump has been leading by some 30 points or more in public polling ahead of Tuesday’s New York GOP presidential primary, with Mr. Cruz in third place behind Ohio Gov. John Kasich in some of the recent surveys on the state.
