Republican front-runner Donald Trump met with Fox News prime-time host Megyn Kelly in the billionaire’s New York offices at high noon Wednesday. And nine hours later, Ms. Kelly revealed that the encounter was meant to “clear the air,” she said in the aftermath.

The two have had an ongoing and very public spat in recent months, and their get-together could yield a truce and possibly a blockbuster interview for Ms. Kelly and positive press for Mr. Trump.

What was intended as a quiet meeting went public within hours thanks to one eagle-eyed journalist and his nimble colleague.

NBC News foreign correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin was the first to report on the event, tweeting this: “Megyn Kelly just entered the Trump tower incognito, met by member of his team who took her upstairs.”

Sometime later, Mr. Mohyeldin tweeted: “Trump Source confirms to NBC News what I first saw this AM, Fox News’ Megan Kelly entering Trump Tower residence at 11 am for about 1 hour.”

His account was retweeted by NBC’s chief legal correspondent Ari Melber, and buzz grew — so much so that Fox News issued a formal statement by midafternoon to reveal that Fox News Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes has spoken to Donald Trump a few times over the past three months about appearing on a Fox Broadcasting special with Megyn Kelly airing on May 23.

The network promised the results of that meeting would be revealed on the Kelly File that very night.  Were they? A grinning Ms. Kelly admitted at the close of her show Wednesday that she’d paid a call on Mr. Trump and that the doormen were “stunned” on her arrival. She described her one time nemesis as “gracious” during their hour long meeting, meant to “clear the air,” she said.

“Stay tuned,” Ms. Kelly advised.
