Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump continues to bolster his campaign staff. He announced Wednesday that he had hired Rick Wiley as national political director to oversee the campaign’s complex field operations that has a wide state-to-state outreach.
Mr. Wiley previously managed Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign for the White House, and also served as political director for the Republican National Committee.
“Rick is a seasoned political expert with a very successful career in winning elections. He brings decades of experience, and his deep ties to political leaders and activists across the country will be a tremendous asset as we enter the final phase of securing the nomination,” Mr. Trump said.
His campaign, which has garnered incredible media coverage, has had a slim staff since the beginning. One recent count placed Mr. Trump’s national staff at 94 people, compared to Democratic rival Hillary Clinton’s - she is said to have 596 staffers. Mr. Wiley joins Paul Manafort, another new hire and veteran strategist who Mr. Trump brought on last week to manage the national campaign.
Mr. Wiley is already on message.
“Voters are frustrated with the political status quo in our country and are hungry for an outsider to shake up Washington. Donald Trump has energized millions of hard working people across the country with his no-nonsense straight talk and will bring his record of success to tackle the real problems that face our nation,” Mr. Wiley said.
