Washington Redskins running back Silas Redd has been suspended indefinitely without pay by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. The suspension is effective immediately.

Redd, who tore his right ACL and MCL last year in the preseason, was on injured reserve for all of 2015. On Nov. 18, Redd was suspended four games without pay for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Although he was on injured reserve, he served that suspension last season.

Before the suspension, Redd would have been at odds to make the team in training camp following the injury. However, the Redskins will likely need to add to the depth at the position.

After Alfred Morris signed with the Dallas Cowboys, the Redskins now have only three running backs under contract for the 2016 season: Matt Jones, Chris Thompson and Mack Brown.
