On paper, Hillary Clinton looks to be fully qualified for the presidency, but that doesn’t mean she’s the best candidate for the job, Sen. Bernard Sanders’ campaign manager said Monday.

Jeff Weaver told MSNBC that while the former secretary of state has plenty of experience, that’s not the only factor Democratic voters are considering during this primary season,.

“She’s clearly experienced, right? Clearly an intelligent person, experienced person,” Mr. Weaver said. “But resume is not enough at the end of the day. You can look at someone’s resume and they could be great, but when you do the interview — which is what this whole election process basically is, is a job interview — you learn a lot more than just what’s on the piece of paper. On paper, of course she’s experienced.”

The comments come as the Democratic race has turned ugly, and as both candidates are locked in a high-stakes battle ahead of next week’s New York primary.

Polls show Mrs. Clinton with a strong double-digit lead in the Empire State, where Democrats will go to the polls on April 19.
