WARREN, Mich. — Gaffes must run in the Biden family.
While introducing President Obama, Jill Biden on Wednesday botched the name of Macomb Community College and had to be corrected by students in the audience.
Mrs. Biden and Mr. Obama visited the college as part of their push to make two years of community college free for all Americans. The president also and Mrs. Biden toured training areas where students prepare for a career in the auto industry.
Mr. Obama then delivered remarks to a crowd of about 1,000 students.
But first, Mrs. Biden offered a brief introduction, incorrectly pronouncing the name of the college as “May-comb.”
Students in the audience groaned, then shouted the correct pronunciation of the school — “Muh-comb.”
“You’re correcting the teacher,” Mrs. Biden said, quickly moving on with her prepared remarks.
Unlike her husband, Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Mrs. Biden is not known for her gaffes.
Among the vice president’s most famous gaffes are telling a wheelchair-bound Missouri state senator to stand up at a campaign rally, calling Mr. Obama “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean” to run for the presidency, joking that in Delaware “you cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent,” and caressing the shoulders of Stephanie Carter, wife of Defense Secretary Ashton Carter.
